The
tour is in Aldershot and we are back to a normal gig after the lovely ball at
the Hilton. We came back from the ball and went down to Aldershot early.
We found a second hand record shop which had a good selection of 80's on vinyl
and we bought a few. We went to the venue and picked up some by request song
menus to take to the pub and decide which songs to choose. We helped ourselves
to a few extra and these were put in the box. This was the first time on this
tour that I had a front row seat although it was to the side right in front of
Richie. The gig started about on time but it was preceded with an announcement
of no cameras and to switch off mobile phones. I don't usually take much notice
of this sort of announcement but noticed that nobody else was taking photos, I
took a few without the flash but knew they wouldn't be any good, so after a few
songs I decided to take some with the flash anyway. I managed to get a few, but
then I had the camera police tell me to stop.
The first half songwise was the same as St Albans and the stories between the
songs were pretty much the same. Before I know it the first half is over and
time to chat to friends.
The second half starts with 'Who are You' and the front row stands up, only to
be told to sit down again. It was a good set, not Spandau or Rock, just a good
selection of songs including 'Sunny Day' which I had been waiting to hear again
for ages. The next request that Tony read out was ours, putting extra ones in
the box had worked. On this particular one we had said 'You choose, just do us a
request' so he dedicated it to the nutters, Wendy, Tina, Sarah and Denise, and
sang the Queen song 'Somebody To Love'. It was excellent and he held the notes
for ages in it. We were able to stand up half way through the second half,
but were not allowed to stand right next to the edge of the stage.
Time for the encore and he said 'What Spandau song haven't I sung', of course it was 'Gold', so that was the first song of the encore, followed by 'Hey Jealousy' and 'I Predict A Riot'
Stage Door time, Tony had relatives at the gig so was a little longer than usual, but great to speak to him again.
