This was the second night of the 'By Request' Tour and my first taste. I hadn't intended going to this one initially, but was offered a ticket and decided to go.
The line up was Tony, John Keeble, Phil Taylor, Phil Williams and Richie Barrett. No Angie Grant or the Horny Boys, just according to Tony a back to roots five some.
The stage set up had Phil Taylor with a standard Lamp with large flowery lampshade behind him, either side of John were a television with videos of a roaring fire in a fireplace and this was played continuously throughout the show and on the right hand stage there was a home bar complete with bottles of beer and Jack Daniels.
The first half of the set was Tony's choice and between each song he chatted about why each song had been chosen.
Before the gig everyone had been given a song menu with 61 songs on it (below is a list of the songs) and was asked to choose a song and say why they had chosen it. During the first half Dave (the tour manager) picked out at random a number of requests and these were put on the set list. Before each song, Tony read out who had requested it and their reason why.
The encore is not listed on the set list but was True, Instinction and Somebody To Love.
Tony did a brilliant gig but it was marred by the camera and sit down police (the stewards at the venue). Many people were told not to take pictures, so it is amazing that I have as many as I do. I also like to get up and dance and this was definitely not allowed. The over zealous stewards were not appreciated by the fans and even Tony thought it was out of order.
At the end of the gig it was time to head around to the stage door and chat to friends whilst we waited for Tony. Even as he was talking to everyone he was told that he had to leave his dressing room, but he still carried on talking to everyone. I wouldn't recommend Aylesbury Civic Centre as a venue due to its staff, there are lots of nicer venues to go to.
