Barrow-in-Furness was my second gig on Tony's By Request tour and after my first at Bolton, I couldn't wait for more. I'd managed to combine this one with my hols to the Lakes and it's a part I've never been to before. There was some lovely scenery on the way and for once the weather was kind. Tony said during the concert he hadn't been to Barrow before either.
The gig was brilliant and Tony was on top form. He was chatting away in between songs more than ever, which was great - I love to hear his stories. Think it might have had something to do with the couple of pubs he and the band had visited during the afternoon! The first half was great and the same as Bolton but with The Price of Love added, which is a brilliant song. Not long in, there was a pause while the roadies swept and mopped up a bottle or glass Richie had dropped from the bar! It was good to hear Young Girl and For Your Blue Eyes Only again, along with the others and soon it was the interval and then the By Request bit.
It was great to hear Walking in Memphis and to do the actions again as it didn't appear at Bolton. The Jack Daniels seemed to have run out and was replaced by Jim Bean. Maybe that's what got smashed earlier! By this time we had got up by the stage as thankfully there were no camera and sit-down police. Rio was requested and it's the first time I've heard Tony sing his version. I admit to been a Durannie at one time but as with Save A Prayer, I think he sings it better than Simon!! Barricades has always been my fave Spandau song and featured along with a few more, including True. Tony read out the request for True which was from some dinner ladies who 'had lost their cherries' to the song, which brought some funny comments from Tony! Luckily the song I was desperate to hear, Queen's Somebody to Love made the list. It wasn't my request that was read out but it was brilliant to see Tony sing this song. It was just awesome and my highlight of a great night. A lot of my faves followed, Suspicious Minds and Tony's 'party piece' I Predict A Riot. I can't get enough of Tony rocking out to this and I think it's one of the best songs he does. It seems to get better ever time he does it. 'Riot' brought the set to an end and the encore was Gold and That's Life, another of my all time faves. Another fantastic night and my last on this tour. Can't wait for the Big Band tour.
