There
were two shows following each other at Bath and I had never been to two shows on
one day, I thought it would be a good experience and comparison. I booked
the tickets as soon as they went on sale and got one end of the front row for
the first and the other end of the front row for the other. The first ones
were best as they were right in front of Tony's microphone. My 17 year old
daughter would be my companion for this trip and a journey by train was the
preferred transport. It was lucky that I checked the train times the day
before because the train we were due to travel up on had been cancelled and the
one on the way back had turned into a bus.
The Theatre Royal is nearly 150 years old with boxes overlooking the stage, Tony joked that he expected to see the Muppets sitting in the boxes. The whole theatre was sold out for both shows. The early show went really well, although being the matinee, people were not standing much until well into the second half. The set lists I have are for the second show as Tony sang Jim Croce's 'Time in a Bottle' at the first. This was replaced by Hall & Oates 'She's Gone' at the second show. No 'Drops of Jupiter', but it seems that it hasn't been completely dropped from the set as Tony sang it at Bradford the night before, so hopefully I will get to hear it again later on the tour. Both Tony and Martin were on top form, although it must have been a tiring trip down from Bradford and then to do two shows in a day.
Between the first and second shows we managed not to get thrown out into the
cold, so we just had a short wait and back to our seats, we were joined for the
second show by Wendy and Gema who managed to sit in restricted view seats that
had not been sold. The audience for the second show were more lively and stood up for more of
the songs. Tony and Martin were given a good reception for both shows. I was able to buy the DVD at
this venue and although I'm on it, thankfully I do not feature
prominently.
The two shows were over much too quickly for my liking and time to head out into the cold and wait at the stage door. Martin Fry was out first and I got him to sign my DVD. Tony was out remarkably quickly, but we let other people waiting speak to him first. Tony remembered my name, everyone cheered at this point! Although he did say he still thought I looked like a Judith. We had a group photo taken with Tony. All in all an enjoyable day, except for the journey home, the bus finally arrived at the station at 2.45 am.
