This was the first of the IML Summer Sessions and Tony would be on the bill with Rick Astley, Belinda Carlisle, Martin Fry and Go West, unfortunately a few days before the show there was an announcement that Peter Cox was unwell and had been advised not to sing. So at short notice the set list would have to be changed.
Thanks to Jay who gave me a copy of the whole set list, this was the running order with Belinda Carlisle singing the first six songs. Martin Fry was next up for the next nine songs and he went down really well.
The roadies next put Tony's microphone up in the middle of the stage and another one to the left, so I wondered whether it was going to be Tony or Rick Astley who would be top of the bill.
So next on stage was Tony and he sang 'Life on Mars', he was then joined by Rick Astley and they dueted with 'Boys of Summer'. Tony then left the stage and it was time for Rick to start his part of the show.
Time for 'Somebody Told Me' and Tony was back on stage, back to his high octane self, this was follwed by Virginia Plain, True, and Barricades. Rick was back for the Hall and Oats song 'Family Man' and the Pussycat Dolls song 'Don't Cha' - I'm not sure if this song really works. then he went onto The Feeling song 'I Love it when you call' and mentioned that he had met the band at the Isle of Man festival. The set continued with 'Gold' and then 'I Predict a Riot'. the band went off briefly and for the encore Tony and Rick came back on for the Bruce Springsteen song 'Girls in their summer clothes' and That's life.
It had been a great show and it was great to meet up with lots of friends and to be on the front rail with them all.
