I
hadn't intended going to this show at the Bristol Hippodrome, having already
booked for two other ones, but after seeing good reviews of the early shows, I
checked whether there were any tickets available and whether it was possible to
go by train and get back the same day. Persuaded
my 16 year old daughter that she had to come with me.
There were tickets available and the train times were suitable. The timings would be quite tight. I hadn't booked any time off work so I finished work at 4.15 pm, picked my daughter up from her friends house, went home and did a quick change and off to the station. Train pulled into Bristol Temple Meads at 7.10 pm, jumped into a taxi, arrived at the Hippodrome, picked up the tickets that I had booked the day before, bought a tour CD and programme, found seats - all with 5 minutes to spare before the show started. Seats not very good, on right of stage at the back of the stalls underneath the balcony.
First taste of the tour, takes a bit of getting used to that Tony is sharing the show with someone else. The audience seemed a bit partisan too - only clapping and cheering when their favourite was on, not much standing either. The show followed the usual duets. The Why don't You Try Me song was a bit raunchy. Tony sang, and then there was the 20 minute break, back to swapping around and then Richard Drummie joining Pete for the Go West songs and finally the Robert Palmer duets at the end. Everything sounded very loud especially when there were two lots of drum kits being used. Not sure whether it was louder because we were under the balcony.
Too soon it was all over and time to get back in a taxi and go back to the station. No time, this time to wait around for Tony and Pete, although there was a train later than the one we caught, I didn't want us to get stranded in Bristol. Listened to the tour CD all the way home on the train.
