Doncaster isn't exactly on my doorstep, but I can get a
direct train there, so I decided to go. This gig was a re-run of the
tour earlier in the year. Tony was joined by Martin Fry, John Keeble,
Phil Taylor, Phil Willams, Richie Barrett, Matt Backer, Richard Brook, Simon Wilescroft,
Dave Williamson and Graeme Flowers.
This was the perfect start to my Christmas, meeting up with northern friends and seeing Tony too. I arrived at my hotel, next door to the Doncaster Dome and I could hear the sound check - from then onwards I knew we were in for a good evening. The venue had originally sold the tickets as standing and then decided to put in seats, luckily there was a nice large area in front of the seats. Two songs in, a couple of people got up to dance on their own at the front, at the beginning of the fourth song, there was a mad rush for the front, I got to just right of centre, two rows back. Someone to my left decided to move and I managed to get to the middle in the front (a brilliant place, just under Tony's microphone). When it came to the interval, I decided not to move.
Tony was in a really chatty mood and was talking about Christmas parties and people photocopying parts of their bodies! He also talked about doing Corporate do's where the suits would get up and dance with their wife during Walking in Memphis and being totally confused by the bit where it changes tempo.
The whole show was excellent and I had a great time. I waited for Tony afterwards and gave him the card that I had made, he really liked the card and was surprised and pleased to have the Christmas wishes and messages from Japan and Poland, as well as from his fans in the UK.
