Review of Tony Hadley at Elmshorn, Germany - 2nd July 2006 by Anna
The 2nd July was a beautiful and hot day - not only because of 30 C temperature, most because I see Tony. This event was a open-air concert in Elmshorn - a small city 30 km from Hamburg. My office-colleague and I, we got there at 5 pm and the gig started at 8 pm. We were early and we went to the stage. The stage was at a weekly market place but all over was a fence. We heard Paul singing in rehearsal. We went around the fence and we see Tony (in blue shirt) with a band in the beer garden behind the fence. They all ate and drank wine (oh, 30 C warm air !!) .We say to Tony, that we could talk together with him. He come to us and we conversed over football WM and England play and more. We got autograph from Tony. He was super nice and looked so fine - simply a beautiful big guy! He and I, we both shake our hands and it is unfortunate that the fence was between us - it was not possible to take photos. At 6 pm we see Tony with other people in VW Bus drive away - likely to hotel. The show began at 8 pm with a band unknown for me - but they make good music. At 9 pm Paul and Tony came on stage. There are not many fans - so unhappy! But there was no info about this concert and no flyers. I think 800-1000 fans (instead of 5000). Paul sang at first and he had a bad voice, he was little drunk. Afterwards came Tony and he was fantastic - his voice live was overwhelming. I love it!!! Tony and Paul sang together many songs and alternately by themselves. Tony sang his well-known songs: Only when you leave, Memphis, True, Through the Barricades, Gold, Suspicious Minds, Free Falling and still more. Paul's voice got better when he drank more. He was very likeable too. I like him. The guys give three time extra bonus - one of this was "Kiss" from Prince. The show was fantastic. After show we must quickly to train back to Hamburg - last train for this evening. We can't wait for Tony and have photos taken with him.
