It was the weekend again, but this time instead of seeing Tony I was off on a girly weekend with people from work to London, shopping, sightseeing and going to see Les Miserables. My thoughts turned to wondering that if I took a detour on the way back whether it was possible to see Tony as well as get back without staying another night away. As it turned out it was possible to see the 4.30 pm Matinee show and then I was offered a front row seat - how could I refuse that!
I left the rest of my friends in London and headed off to High Wycombe. The theatre is easy to find and close to the station.
The show started with 'Up. Up and Away' and continued in the usual way for a two show day, unfortunately no set lists this time as they only had the one lot for the two shows. The hour-long first half flies by and I can't believe that it is time for the interval.
During the interval the two chairs were put out ready for Tony and Martin to sing 'Soul Love', but shortly before the restart the two chairs were taken away and when Tony and Martin reappeared they sang a duet of 'She's Gone'. It sounded like this was the first show that they had done it as a duet as Martin was a little hesitant with the opening line. Martins songs from the ABC Songbook got the audience up on their feet. 'Walking in Memphis' and its actions had the audience laughing away - it is so funny. Not so much banter from Tony at this one, but he did mention that his son Mack thinks that he is famous because of the sketch on Comic Relief. Tony even decided that he wasn't going to go off for the encore or get a beer, but would stay on stage. He had to chat for a bit though because it seemed that he hadn't told Martin this and had to wait for him to come back on.
To be able to get home, I was at the early show, so no speaking to Tony after the show as he doesn't come to the stage door between the shows, so I am sad about that but I will get the opportunity to speak to him at another show.
Going back to my weekend in London, one of the actors in Les Miserables looked uncannily like Tony - a bit younger perhaps, my seat for that show was high up in the Upper Circle so close up he may not be so like Tony, but it was like seeing Tony two days running.
