Well this was my second show of the tour having seen Tony at Basingstoke in October and listening to the Passing Strangers CD I knew it would be a great evening.
We got to Reading in plenty of time and met up with friends for a drink before heading to the Hexagon. We had front row seats so had a lovely view of Tony. Some of the musicians were different to the ones at Basingstoke but they all had a great time.
Tony came out in his dark suit and started with ‘The Mood I’m In’ and then ‘Too Close for Comfort’. Tony was in a good mood and was chatting through the songs. The rest of the first half was fantastic and included ‘Time in a Bottle’, ‘Leaves of Love’, ‘How can I be sure’ and ‘Passing Strangers’.
Then after a quick interval we were back for the second half which started with ‘You Make me feel So Young’ followed by ‘Just a Gigolo’. Again Tony was in a great mood and chatted through the songs – he did forget some of the words but had a great laugh through it. The second half included ‘Don’t know Why’, ‘Tender is the Night’, ‘Bewitched’ along with ‘Barricades’, ‘Suspicious Minds’ and ‘Gold’. We managed to get up through ‘Suspicious Minds’ and the atmosphere was fantastic for the last three songs of the second half. We knew Tony would be back for an encore and he sang ‘It’s Not Unusual’ and ‘Let’s Stick Together’.
I managed to get Tony’s set list before heading round to wait for Tony to come out. While we were waiting Phil Taylor came out, he chatted for a while and signed the set list. Then Tony came out and I managed to get my CD and the set list signed.
I am now counting the days to my final show at Liverpool which is the last of the current tour.
