Review of Tony Hadley at Leicester Racecourse
2nd July 2011

This was my third racecourse show of the summer, but this time it would be an afternoon/early evening show. As usual weather forecast websites became my favourite ones to visit, but I needn't have worried as the day dawned bright and sunny and remained like that for most of the day.

Wendy and I decided to travel up to Leicester the day before, so we would not have to rush straight from the train to the racecourse, so we had a bit of time to do some shopping in Leicester in the morning as we were staying in a city centre hotel. The racing was due to start at 2.10 pm and we made our way to the racecourse on the bus and arrived shortly after the first race. When Tony does a raccourse show, my husband asks his racing pal for some tips on who to be on. We only have a small flutter of £2 each way, but thanks to him, he predicted two winners for us and at the end of the racing we were £2.60 in profit between us.

During the racing, Tony had been asked to give out the prizes for the best dressed ladies competition and the first photo in the gallery is from that. He also said hello and had his photo taken with some people who were around watching.

Soon the racing was over and it was time for Tony to come on stage. It was a bit strange that it was daylight and so early in the day but this made for better photos so there are more photos from this gig than is usual as there were less dud ones due to the lighting.

The set was the same as at Aintree Racecourse a couple of weeks previously. The inclusion of the Foo Fighter's song 'Learn to Fly' and 'Feelin' Good' made it onto the set again. After listening to 'Learn to Fly' a few times online, I was able to join in with Tony singing, as I do with most songs that Tony sings.

One annoying thing that happened was that a woman barged her way to the row behind me and started twirling a pair of knickers round on her finger. They kept landing on my head, this made me quite cross, especially as I didn't know whether they were clean ones or not! She eventually threw them at the stage and they landed on the edge. Thankfully they did seem clean, but I'm not sure why these women get themselves drunk and decide that Tony wants a present like this! Thankfully once the knickers were thrown, she decided to leave where she had pushed her way into and we were left in peace to enjoy the rest of the show.

Tony is still suffering from a bad throat, but this doesn't stop him from putting on an excellent show and the band of John Keeble, Phil Taylor, Phil Williams, Richie Barrett, Simon Wilescroft, Lily Gonzales and Dawn Joseph were excellent too.

After quite a long wait we spoke to Tony and had a nice chat to him before they all left to go to Gatwick for their early morning flight to Italy. It was nice to meet up with the other fans who had come along and have a nice chat. The sunshine made it a great day.

After another night in Leicester, we made our way home.
