I was uncertain whether Tony would be appearing at this event but I decided
to go anyway. If he didn't appear then I would still be raising money for
the charity and having a nice pre-Christmas get together with other fans. Luckily
Tony was there with his Mum. John Leslie was the compare,
Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen was there with his daughter, Lou Jordan an Elvis
impersonator, Mark Shaw from Then Jerico, Martin Fry, The Satellites (Tony's
backing band of Phil Taylor, Richie Barrett, Phil Taylor, the brass section from
the new tour (sorry don't know your names yet), a guitarist from the new tour
(he is American but looks like he could be Richie's brother) and a drummer) and
of course Tony himself.
I decided to go by train and booked the tickets and I was due to arrive into London at 11.07 am. As soon as I got on the train there was an announcement that the train wouldn't be arriving into London until 11.45 am. This would be a bit of a nuisance as the event started at 11.30 am. So on arrival I decided to jump in a taxi and make my way to Planet Hollywood. I hadn't missed much.
The event had just started and John Leslie was making some introductions, next came the Elvis act - Lou Jordan, he was on for quite a while and they served lunch whilst he was on. John Leslie and Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen did the raffle. The afternoon session consisted of The Satellites, Mark Shaw, Martin Fry and Tony was on last singing Walking in Memphis, Suspicious Minds and Gold. I took the picture that is on the homepage at this event. I asked Tony if I could take a picture of him on his own and he said yes, but he insisted on looking at it on my camera. Wendy and Gema gave the cheque from the collection at Butlins to Tony and had a photo taken for the Shooting Stars Newsletter.
