This show was a benefit show for Graham Pidgeon (G-man), Tony's truck driver who has recently suffered from a brain tumour and has had operations to remove this and is unable to work. The Rock City kindly offered the venue free, but this was a Monday night and not the most convienient night for eveyone to get to it on. Quite a few other people from down south decided to make the trip up to Nottingham and we hit the motorway for the journey up. We stopped at some services and found the band having a snack.
We checked into the hotel and time to get ready and make our way to the gig, having a bite to eat at a nearby pub. We got to the venue and were near the front of the queue, waiting for the doors to open.
The doors opened about on time and we took our places at the front. I Play Rock were first up as the first of Tony's friends and did a set of 4 songs. There was a short break and then it was time for Tony to come on. Being Rock City it wasn't going to be a swing show, it was going to be a high energy and rocky show. Tony started with 'Buck Rogers' and continued as the set list until Peter Cox came on and joined him for 'Drive My Car', 'Somebody Told Me' and 'Boys of Summer'. He continued on his own for the rest of the set until he finished with 'Gold'. For the encore Peter Cox came back on stage and Tony got his guitar out for 'Lets Stick Together' and halfway through the song broke one of the strings. The show was finished with 'I Predict A Riot'. It was an excellent show.
I hope the money raised from this gig helps Graham and he is back to good health soon.
