This
was the first full concert that Tony and the band had done for a long time
on their own, but Runcorn is not exactly the closest place to where I live
(almost 250 miles) but I had to go and see Tony. I was not
disappointed, it was the best concert that Tony has done for ages.
Tony was on top form. The theatre had only been open a few weeks and Tony joked that he was the first person to use the shower at the theatre. It was a fairly small theatre with 430 seats but it was full. I had a front row seat. Tony sang quite a few songs that he hadn't sung for a while including 'Sunny Day' and 'Save a Prayer'. He also did 'Broken Dreams' and an excellent version of 'Always On My Mind'. He also did a selection of Spandau songs. The show was split into two halves plus a three song encore. It was over far too quickly for my liking but it had been superb. Tony had done over two hours and over 20 songs. Along with a few other fans who I had met up with it was time to head round to the stage door and do the usual hour or so wait for Tony. Don't think the security could believe that so many people were waiting for Tony and they warned us that it may be a while before Tony appeared - we didn't mind and said that we were used to waiting for him. Tony finally arrived after midnight with drink and cigar in hand and stayed quite a long time chatting and having photos taken with the fans. John came out too and chatted and posed for photos. All in all it was the best gig I have been to of Tony's. |
