I
can't believe that this was my penultimate concert on the tour and that I only
have one left to do - Southampton.
City Hall Salisbury is a nice venue, although the stage was quite small and the people on the far right hand side as they looked at the stage couldn't see the 'Horny Boys'.
The first half brought no surprises and has become very tight musically, of course Tony's chat makes it a memorable, he likes to get the audience's opinion on their favourite Spandau song and 'Musclebound' or 'Paint Me Down' is the usual reply. He hates these songs and launches into 'True' and 'Barricades' after a great welcome for John Keeble to the stage.
'Time in a Bottle' is a great song and Tony's version is excellent. 'Walking in Memphis' was a hoot as usual. 'When Smokey Sings' was the cue for the audience to get up and dance, this was my moment to get from my 3rd row middle aisle seat to the front. Managed to get right underneath Tony's microphone, so that is why some of my photos look like they have been taken from the feet upwards! During the last song, Tony lifted a little girl (about 8 years old) onto the stage and gave her a tambourine to play. She had been in the front row with her mum and he mum's sister and had been very well behaved all the way through. I thought this was a lovely gesture and her mum was completely shocked that this had happened.
Go set lists at the end of the show again - the strange black mark on the second half one is where Tony had stepped on it.
At the end of the show we waited round in the foyer and chatted and nearly missed Martin Fry coming out at the stage door. Didn't miss Tony though, he was sweet as usual and took time to speak to everyone even though he hadn't eaten and had a restaurant booking to go to.
