This was the second of the IML Summer Sessions, my slight problem (apart from the location) was that it was our 27th wedding anniversary, but my compromise on this, was that my hubby would come to the concert, but that we would have a long weekend away in Shrewsbury. I'd never been to that part of the country before and it is a very picturesque part of the country. I'd heard from Gema earlier in the week that she would be going to the show, so we arranged to meet up, so picnic finished my phone rang and it was Gema asking where I was. Mica Paris had already started her set, I think this is the hardest one to do as everyone is still eating, it is still light and just getting in the mood for the evening. The good news was that Pete Cox had recovered from his illness and Go West were back on the bill. Gema and I made our way into the crowd who were standing at the front of the stage whilst Howard Jones was on. Go West were next up and sang their hits plus Tears of a Clown. By this time we had got to the second row on the right hand side. Next was Martin Fry in a bright orange suit, I wondered if he had worn this suit as he was supporting Holland in the World Cup? After Martin Fry had come on the two people who had been stood in front of us decided to go and Gema and I were now on the front rail on the right hand side, I couldn't believe our luck as we hadn't been standing at the front from the begining. It was then time for Tony to come on stage, dressed in suit and tie, I wish he was a bit more casual for these shows and wearing jeans and a nice crisp white shirt and no jacket. The set list this time is just for Tony's and Rick Astley's part of the show (thanks Chris for throwing it to me, the scan doesn't show that he screwed the set list into a ball and threw it across the gap - thankfully he's a good thrower and I can catch!). Tony's part of the show started in a similar way to the show at Borde Hill with Tony coming on and singing 'Life on Mars' and then he was joined by Rick Astley for 'Boys of Summer'. After this Tony left the stage and it was Rick's slot for the next five songs. It was then time for Tony to come back for the rest of his part of the show and was joined at several points by both Rick Astley and Go West. It was an excellent show and it had been appreciated by the huge audience at the Quarry and I really enjoyed it. |
