I decided to go to the Soccer Six tournament at Reading and along with my daughter set off on the 8.00 am train on the Sunday Morning. I had never seen Tony playing football and it was also raising money for the Princes Trust. Arrived in Reading at 10.30 am and made our way to the Madjeki Stadium. The football started at 11.30 am. Three pitches had been marked out across the pitch and three matches were played simultaneously. The proceedings for the day were made much clearer when I bought a programme! It still was very confusing, Radio One beat Tony's team 5 - 1 and Brian McFadens team beat them 3 - 1 (I think).
Tony's team included Richard Drummie, Paul Hardcastle, Tony Woodcock (ex pro player), Jeff Brazier (Jade from Big Brother's bloke) and was called Super Six. Tony seem to arrive late and his first match he played was for a different team - the Six London, which included Dean Gaffney (Robbie) and James Alexandrou (Martin) from East Enders.
Other teams competing were - Radio One (the eventual winners) - their team included Michael Grecco and Ralf Little, Starsailor, Snowpatrol, Goldie Looking Chain, Brian McFadden, Liberty X, D-Side, Blazin Squad, Six Amigos. There were also 6 ladies teams competing against each other. Most of the people who were playing, I had never heard of, but Blazin Squad had lots of fans who were sat around us.
Tony's team did not get any further than the three first round matches. After the knockout stage, Tony was involved in a penalty shoot out and missed. Tony's son Mack was there with a friend and gave us a display of his footballing skills during the warm up and scored a lovely goal!
After that Tony disappeared, I don't think he recognised any of his fans in amongst the young girls who were there to see Blazin Squad, James Fox and Westlife.
