I was lucky enough to find out that Tony was going to be the musical guest at the recording of a pilot television programme - Lights, Camera, Auction! that would be recorded in London on June 9th. I spoke to the producers of the show and they were willing to let me come along. A three of my good friends came along too. There were a limited amount of places available (only about 35 people in the audience) and most of the spaces were taken by people chosen by the TV company. Stephen Gately only had two fans there. Everyone had to bring some items from their collection, but they didn't use any of ours.
The premise of the show is that members of the audience and the star guests bring along items to be auctioned during the programme. Eamonn Holmes is the presenter of the show and has an assistant called Charlotte. Gillian McKeith and Stephen Gately were the guests on the show. There was also a mention of an auction for a gig with Tony, if that had been real, it would have been good.
Tony was being backed by John Keeble, Phil Taylor, Phil Williams and Matt Backer. Eamonn Holmes introduced them as Tony Hadley's band.
The filming took place in the same studio that they do 'The Wright Stuff' in.
Tony was singing the lead out and lead in from the 'break' and he also sang 'Gold' in full at the end.
Unfortunately there was no opportunity to take pictures, but
here is a floor plan of the studio on the day, to see it in context - this is
the website of the TV
company.
